The city of Barcelona is mind blowingly alive! People everywhere, incredible architecture, food, scenery and all easily accessible. Today Nancy and I took the subway and explored the Marina district. Then we walked inland to the the Gothic district where we caught the awesome public transportation system back to our apartment. We covered a lot of great territory experiencing different areas of the city and having a very memorable lunch.
Here’s a sampling of our walkabout on a beautiful sunny day in Spain!
Nancy makes a new friend the minute we walk up from the subway at the Marina.
Then she took a lesson in Lion taming.
The Marina was beautiful.
The beach was packed with people enjoying the surf. The sand was not as pristine as it seemed in Alicante.
Best part of each day…Tapas Lunch! These Scallops topped with a very mild Roe were delicious. The accompanying asparagus and dollop of sauce rounded it out — perfect!
A common Tapas; tomato bread. Simply, this is grated tomato spread on bread. The better the bread and higher the quality of tomato used will result in a simple but flavor packed appetizer and this serving was both. Perfect for sopping up the olive oil based juices that were left behind in some of our other Tapas dishes.
This caught Nancy’s eye immediately on the menu. Fresh made burger patty topped with Fois Gras — yum! It sat an slices of perfectly cooked potatoes.
Oopsy…took a bite of this one before snapping a pic! This was very tasty; artichoke hearts on top of sun dried tomatoes and thinly sliced parmesan — all on top of yummy, quality olive oil perfect for our bread to soak up!
This was the little square our restaurant was located in off of a side street.
Our after Marina walk was down narrow streets like this that wound all throughout the area we were in. When we decided we had enough for the day we found the closest Metro/Subway entrance and made our way home for the day.
